Free Preemie Kimono Pattern ~ by Little Liza Lou & endorsed by Goosie

Evelyn Griffin has always had a heart for preemies. Thirty years ago, she, herself was born 10 weeks premature, and weighed 2lbs 3 oz. She had a hole in her heart, and was not expected to live. She had a very small chance of surviving. The doctors said if she did manage to survive that her prognosis was grave. They said she would never be able to walk or talk, or have cognizant thought. (Apparently, none of that was true). Right before her own daughter was born 2 years ago, she was laid off from her job, and she didn’t know what she would do with an 18 month old, and a newborn (Goosie thinks all mothers go through that moment of panic as our family begins to grow! LOL) During this time of being unemployed and home with two babies, Evelyn learned to sew out of necessity, and out of wanting to have things for her daughter that she couldn’t afford; so she quickly learned how to sew, and loved it.

Evenyln’s business, Lil’ Liza Lou grew out of those early days of sewing, and she specializes in handmade baby and children’s items, for boys and girls. In September of 2011 she started making kimonos for the babies at Norton Suburban’s Kosair NICU. They are all donated free of charge to babies in the NICU.

(awwww!) This kind hearted labor of love is one of the biggest highlights of what she does with her sewing skills. So far, Lil’ Liza Lou has donated 40 kimonos to Kosair just herself!

Goosie too has a soft spot for preemies… I was also one, I was 4 lbs. 1 ounce and was in the hospital for 2 months as an infant before I was allowed to come home~ then when my youngest son was born, he was 6 weeks premature, and needed lung surfacant and much care in the NICU at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Illinois. Thank Goodness for the caring nurses and doctors of NICUS nationwide that give so much to the families with babies that are born prematurely. If you’d like to give homemade love and comfort to a teeny tiny blessing, hope on board this project, and tell her Goosie sent you!

Easy Peasy Chicken Pot Pie Recipe From Goosie Girl

This is one of my family’s favorites! It’s SOOO easy I almost feel guilty when I make it!

It gives the appearance of a lot of effort & wonderful homemade from scratch taste… nobody would probably ever guess it takes about 15 minutes to throw together + baking time!!

You will need:

1 jar chicken gravy

2 pre-made pie crusts (I like pillsbury that you buy in the refrigerated section)

1 bag frozen peas & carrots

1 package fully cooked, chicken “short cuts” (I like oven roasted & honey roasted flavors)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

I cut up the chicken short cuts into cubes, then stir the peas, gravy & chicken together in a bowl.
Roll out the bottom pie crust & prick with a fork to let steam escape while it bakes.
Pour the chicken, gravy & veggie mix into the pie crust, Roll the 2nd pie crust out & place on the top.
Bake for 40-50 minutes
and ENJOY!!
YES, it’s REALLY that easy!!

Free Cake Plate Tutorial from Goosie Girl

I recently had a streak of creativity come over me, although it’s not what most would expect from Goosie Girl. No tulle, no feathers, no ribbons… but I love it just the same!

I made a darling Easter Cake Plate (the original is available for purchase in my Etsy shop if you’d like it)

I gathered some vintage china plates, cut glass plates and small serving platters at some local thrift stores (I LOVE my St. Vincent DePaul Store and Salvation Army shop for these types of scavenges) I chose mismatched and different shaped candlesticks to serve as the pedestals.

Using industrial strength GLASS adhesive (yes, this was the ORIGINAL use for this adhesive) E-6000 I glued the candlesticks to the bottom of the plates, allowed them to dry and VOILA!! Fanciful cake plates

(the Easter plate was not purchased at a thrift store, it was purchased new at my local hobby lobby, and I LOVE the vintage easter bunny scene that was painted on it!)
I think these plates will make a fantastic presentation to the cupcakes and other treats I’m making for my son’s birthday party this weekend! Don’t you?!

Hot ham and cheese dip recipe

I found a recipe on pinterest, I thought I had all the ingredients to make it for lunch for myself, Grandma Judy & the coupon kid… however, I was mistaken, I didn’t have the right ingredients, so I created this dip and I must say… it ROCKS.

Don’t ask Grandma Judy what she thought… she is the klutziest woman on the planet, and she dropped her ramekin of dip all over the floor and the dogs at it… if you ask Kayla, she thought it was really good. hehe

Hot Ham and Cheese Dip

Ingredients

1 brick softened cream cheese
1 C. Mayonaise
1 C. Shredded Mozerella Cheese
1 C. cubed Ham
1/2 C. Shredded Cheddar Cheese
1/2 C. Parmesan Cheese (divided)
1 TBSP diced Garlic (I use the kind in the jar in olive oil)
Dash Pepper

Mix all together in a bowl, reserving 1/2 of the Parmesan Cheese. Spread in a glass pie pan or casserole dish, sprinkle remaining parmesan cheese over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Allow to cool a little before serving with Fresh Raw Veggies or Crackers.

A special valentine coffee treat recipe from Goosie Girl

Oh this is sooo yummy!

You’ll just love it as a Sunday morning treat, or to make for your valentine!

Ingredients are easy…

1 cup of hot coffee (I used Gloria jean’s hazelnut kcup)

2 TBSP fresh milk

2 tsp Hershey’s chocolate syrup

1/8 tsp almond extract

a little juice from your jar of maraschino cherries

Whipped cream

chocolate sprinkles

a Cherry for the top

it is simply heavenly… and calorie free too! he he
